What is Psychotherapy and is it Right For Me?

Have you ever been curious to find out what Psychotherapy is? Do you know what Psychotherapy is but you aren't sure if it's right for you?

Many people understand what a counsellor or therapist's role is, but feel that the word "Psychotherapist" is a bit mysterious. Here, we at KMA Therapy are here to help clarify what this type of professional does.

Psychotherapy is the treatment for mental health, emotional and some psychiatric disorders.

This type of therapy will help you to understand what helps to make you feel positive or negative, happy or sad, ecstatic or mad. Psychotherapists are therapists who help individuals, groups, couples, and/or families to balance out their emotions, stress, relationship complications or other difficult situations. These professionals will help you to accept your strong and weak characteristics about yourself. They will help you to accept yourself for who you are.

Studies have proven that psychotherapy helps increase happiness, motivation, fulfillment, and decrease stress and anxiety.

The Psychotherapists at KMA Therapy have a minimum of a Masters Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related clinical field. Although many psychotherapists have a Master's Degree, the term "Psychotherapist" is still unregulated in Ontario, which means it is important for you as a client to always check into your therapist's credentials to ensure that they have a solid background in the field.

Now that you know what Psychotherapy is, and what Psychotherapists try to accomplish for their clients, you can see if this type of treatment is right for you!
