These three confidence boosting tips will help you feel better - and can improve your mood by the end of the day.
3 Ways to Feel More Confident
So many people come to therapy for self-esteem issues, and they can feel so overwhelming and challenging to deal with - but these three mindsets can really help you out.
1. Learn to Take a Compliment
Our first confidence boosting-tip is simple: Learn how to take a compliment.
When you're not feeling super confident, it can feel really easy to deflect any compliments that people give you.
You may deflect compliments if:
- You feel embarrassed by the attention
- You have a hard time believing the person complimenting you
- Someone compliments something you were feeling self-conscious about
But discrediting the reasons why people would compliment you makes you feel worse about yourself - and it also makes it kind of awkward for the person who's complimenting you.
Learning how to just say “thank you” is a really useful skill.
2. Find a Confidence Role Model
Our second tip is to identify someone who has the kind of confidence that you want to have.
Find someone who embodies the self-esteem and self-assuredness you’d like to have.
After you’ve chosen your confidence role model, take note of:
- How they hold their self
- How they present their self
- How they treat and speak about their self
The key to this one is remembering that even that person you look up to so much is going to have days where they don't feel confident either.
Remember that people can't really tell when you are faking confidence - no one is reading your mind as much as you think they are.
3. Create an Inventory of What Makes You Feel Good
Number three is going to be finding those things that make you feel really good and really confident.
You confidence boosters might include:
- An inspiring playlist
- A really flattering pair of jeans
- Activities that make you feel strong or capable
Obviously, you want to get to a place where your self confidence is just radiating from the inside - but you also want to find things that will give you the boost to help you get there.
