Psychological Services in Toronto
Living in Toronto, there's no shortage of mental health professionals available to you.
Neighbourhoods like Yonge and Eglinton are home to a ton of therapists, social workers, and psychologists who are ready to help you reach your mental health goals.
With all of these options available, it can be hard to know which is the right fit for you. You may be interested in speaking to a psychologist, but what does a psychologist actually do? What makes them different from any other mental health professional?
What is a Counselling Psychologist?
A Counselling Psychologist provides counselling intervention using the latest research and approaches that are specifically tailored to each individual.
They may use cognitive behavioural therapy, behavioural treatment, or other forms of psychotherapy.
They may also use specialized assessments to identify what is the best approach for you and, in some cases, where the exact problems lie if you are unsure.
Counselling psychologists help with a range of issues including:
- Anxiety
- Phobias
- Depression
- Social anxiety
- Obsessive compulsive disorder
All Counselling Psychologists in Ontario require a PhD level education, continually update their qualifications, and are always subject to some form of supervision.
What is a Clinical Psychologist?
A Clinical Psychologist conducts assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, and prevention of mental disorders.
Clinical psychology includes both scientific research, focusing on the search for general principles, and clinical service, focusing on the study and care of patients.
All Clinical Psychologists in Ontario require a PhD level education of university and post university training, continually update their qualifications and are always subject to some form of supervision.
While a psychologist's high level of education can help them provide you with expert-level care, it also means that they often cost more and have longer wait times before you can see them.
