Why Being Organized Keeps Us Stress-Free!

Most people believe that organization is one of those things: You either have it or you don’t.

I’m here to tell you today that this simply isn’t true: Everyone has the power to be organized.

The benefits of being organized extend past the chic look our house has when it’s pristine. Organization actually has psychological benefits. A clean, neat house, schedule, and belongings (and systems to keep them that way) are proven to help you feel more relaxed and calm.

So how can we get, and stay, more organized?

First, make a list of all the areas you’d like to feel more together. Examples could be: Your office, the kids’ closets, your schedule, your photo collections, your grocery lists, your purse, your letters and files, or your car. Writing down the intention to organize these areas sets a conscious reminder in your head that they need to be done. Then, paste the list somewhere you’ll see it often, like your refrigerator.

Organization experts say that the key to being organized is by having a ‘place for everything.’

Then why not visit a local organization or office supply store and pick out some tools? Examples could be plastic files (to store your photo collections), a notepad for your grocery list to sit on your fridge, desktop files to store your letters and files, or a large calendar to sit on your desktop. Taking the time to actually make the systems is the hardest part (yes, this might take a day or two), but a good organization system will make it easy over the long term.

In my opinion, being and feeling organized requires the same determination you need to do most things in life.

If you put your mind to it, you can become more organized each and every month. Best of all, you’ll have the confidence to know that everything is where you need it. You can walk down the street knowing that there’s nothing you’re forgetting and a monsoon of items won’t fall out of your purse when you order a tea. Good luck, organizers!
