Will Therapy Even Help Me?

3 Factors that Determine Your Therapy Experience
Therapy is a huge commitment. You have to put in your energy, your money, and your time. You want to be sure that your investment is going to pay off.
Here at KMA Therapy, the number one question we get is, “Will therapy even help me?” The truth is, therapy works when it's done right.
So here are three ways that you can make sure therapy will work for you.
1. Your Relationship With Your Therapist
Your relationship with your therapist will be the biggest predictor of whether therapy will work for you. Therapy obviously isn't going to work if your therapist is someone who makes you feel uncomfortable, judged, or you just don't like them.
Therapy is a place where you share your deepest darkest secrets. So the person you're sharing them with needs to be someone you trust, and if you don't trust them, therapy is obviously not going to work. What you really need is someone who makes you feel more comfortable and hope this opens the door for successful revelations and breakthroughs in therapy.
2. Your Commitment and Consistency
Number two is your commitment and your consistency and going to therapy. Therapy isn't going to work if you go to one or two sessions and then quit. You only get out what you put in.
If you want to make good progress in therapy, make sure you're booking regular sessions. You need to actually try doing the homework that your therapist assigned to you – you'd be surprised how many people don't.
Be playful try out the things your therapist is telling you in between sessions. You might see real changes in your real life.
3. Having an Open Mind
Number three: Have an open mind about therapy. if you honestly think therapy's not going to work, it's not going to work.
You can think of therapy like dating. If you walk into a first date saying you don't believe that love is possible, you're not going to have a good experience. The last thing you want to do is sabotage your good progress with a negative attitude.
