What an interesting request - CBC news asked me today if I could comment on the dysfunctional relationship between the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans.

The team issued an apology letter, telling Toronto fans that they will play better next year.

To me, especially being a psychotherapist, this sounds a lot like a groveling partner who keeps crawling back after misbehaving. When will we learn to stop going back to this dysfunctional relationship?

All joking aside, fan comradery can be extremely healthy, normal, and fun. There's nothing wrong with cheering for any team we like, provided that it doesn't interfere with the feelings we feel in our everyday lives.
